      Want to write for us?

That's a simple enough question. Rise and Revolt started about 8 years ago, a few days after my 16th birthday when I was sitting around, bored, not much to do in the area of Kansas City I grew up in. It's gone through several name changes and more layout changes than anyone could possibly imagine, but it's all part of the art. Music isn't the only art form we love and support, we also have a love affair with independent artists of all varieties, graphic or otherwise. Now in 2007, we have chosen to move the magazine in a new direction, wanting to inform people of charities, organizations, and social groups that are trying to improve the world around us. over the course of the next year, you will see four different themes to the magazine, one for each charity we are supporting for that time period. Be on the lookout for constantly changing information and an ever growing support for social and political issues in the world around us. We hope that you will not only come to Rise and Revolt to find out about the latest albums and bands that are coming out, but also to find out about what you can do to make the world around you a better place.

For more information about us, read the FAQ listed below...

These are all of the interesting questions we have recieved in the past that I thought we should answer for everyone with blanket responses.

WHAT TYPE OF MUSIC DO YOU COVER?

This is one of the most common questions that people ask us. The small staff we hold at Rise and Revolt is made up of people with a wide range of musical favorites and influences. We as people listen to everything from classic country to hip hop, grind/thrash to power pop. As long as you aren't a radio metal band (ala Disturbed, Stone Sour, etc.) or you aren't a pop country singer, we'll probably give your record a listen, and more than likely review it. We like a lot of things, though we have gotten finnicky and jaded over the years.

WHY WAS THE WEBSITE DOWN FOR SO LONG? WHAT'S WITH THE NEW LAYOUT?

2006 was a year that Rise and Revolt sort of forgot about, but 2007 will be the best year of our history. We are changing the website to bring awareness to four charities that we feel are very important in this world. Be on the lookout for a lot of action and changes with our magazine.

I SENT YOU SOME CDS THAT YOU HAVEN'T REVIEWED YET. DO YOU PLAN ON REVIEWING THEM? DO YOU STILL HAVE THEM?

Yes, we still have all of them. A lot of our writers got too busy do to the magazine, many of them had reviews allocated to them, so I got them dumped off on me. We used to review everything sent to us, but now with the high volume that we receive, we still make the attempt to get every record an equal amount of coverage, but it's just not possible. You will still have almost all of your material get coverage, and the things we don't review, well, it's just best if we didn't. I ask that you please be patient and I will get you some material as soon as possible.

HOW DO I GET IN CONTACT WITH THE MAGAZINE ABOUT GETTING COVERAGE FOR MY LABEL/PR COMPANY?

We'll work with just about anybody. We do ask however that you have an open mind about our opinions and don't assume that if we bash one of our albums, that we'll hate everything you put out. All that said, send all correspondence to : shane @ riseandrevolt.com

HOW DO YOU WORK YOUR BANNERS, AND WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO GET A BANNER OR LINK UP ON YOUR SITE?

At Rise and Revolt we don't accept money from our labels/bands to do banner ads. We run a little distro out of the venues down here, and it is generally easier on up and coming bands and labels to do merch trades as opposed to paying money. Keep the money to put out more quality releases. This is how things work.

AD RATES:
Our ad rates fluctuate slightly depending on who you are, how long we've been doing business together, and how much we enjoy your products. As a standard idea for what you can expect as a standard rate:

What we consider a catalog item is any of the following: Cds, vinyl, shirts. We do not accept stickers or posters as items (though if you want to throw them in with the merch, we'll gladly give them away for you). We do not accept things like hoodies, track jackets, shorts, etc. as they are too costly on your behalf and it wouldn't be fair of us to do such a thing.

If any of this is unclear to you, please e-mail me to clarify the terms.

DID YOU EVER RECEIVE THE PACKAGE THAT I SENT YOU? I SENT IT A WHILE AGO.

It is no news to anyone that the all mighty United States Postal Service has some dishonest employees. Sometimes packages don't arrive. If you believe that nothing has been done with your records, send me an e-mail to follow up on the package. If I never received it, I'll let you know, or I'll give you the status of your review (ie: who is doing it and how close it is to being done). We like to put a little extra effort into our reviews, so you won't generally have a repsonse to the record the day it arrives.
